Make A Gift to Support the NICU!

Most births are normal and healthy, but some babies need a higher level of care. Every year, between 10 and 15 percent of babies born in the U.S. end up in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Health issues range from prematurity to infection to heart problems. For many families, it is a shock to have a newborn sent to the NICU. The sights and sounds of this place can be overwhelming. But behind them is lifesaving equipment and an army of staff all there to help. Ann Marie Cody had some advanced notice that her triplets would be needing extra assistance, given the typical prematurity of multiples. Indeed, after their birth at 33 weeks' gestation, the triplets were sent over to El Camino Hospital's NICU. There, they would spend between three and four weeks having their individual health needs addressed. They received assistance in breathing and eating, in addition to much loving attention by the nurses, doctors, and therapists at El Camino Hospital. The family is so grateful for the top-notch care and training they received.

During the babies' stay at El Camino Hopsital, Mom and Dad witnessed the start of the hospital's massive renovation project and learned about plans to relocate and expand the NICU. An idea was planted that perhaps when the triplets got older, they could serve as an inspiration and help other babies in some way. That time has now come, and in celebration of their tremendous progress, mom Ann Marie decided to race half and full marathons while pushing the babies in their giant stroller. In the process, she recently took down the Guinness World Records for the 'fastest [half] marathon pushing a triple pram (female)'. More races may lie in the future. It is our hope that as part of this effort, we will inspire you to make a donation in honor of our little Three Peas in a Pram. Your gift will help to support the NICU’s expansion, from life-saving equipment to useful and comforting furniture such as kangaroo recliners, new stools for moms to use when pumping, and mamaRoo swings.  Thank you for enabling El Camino Hospital to care for more of these delicate babies where they were born, using the most advanced, effective diagnostic and treatment tools available.  For assistance or more information, please email foundation@elcaminohospital.org or call 650-940-7154.
